First up: Nestled at the very end of The Fleet tidal lagoon is Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens. They are remnants of the Abbey that used to be located nearby. It is the only managed nesting site of Mute Swans in the world, dating back from the 14th century AD.

Abbotsbury Swannery
Portland Bill Lighthouse

The Isle of Portland is next, explore the area around the Bill with two lighthouses, a stone arch, quarry works and notorious tidal races, a rough and dynamic area that is always changing. We will hopefully take the opportunity to climb the lighthouse and enjoy the view from the top!

Next stop is lunch*. If it's not too busy we will be stopping at Billy Winters on Chesil Beach. A stylish little surfers bar on the spit of land between Portland and Weymouth. We'll also take a moment to walk up the beach to enjoy impressive views down The Fleet Lagoon.

Maiden Castle Hill Fort, Dorchester, Dorset

Saving the best until last, we will be visiting the Cerne Giant, and the Nearby village of Cerne Abbas. The giant being a chalk carving of unknown age and origin, whereas the village has to be one of the prettiest in the area, boasting three separate pubs and a magical well.

Onwards to Maiden Castle, The biggest Iron Age hill fort in the United Kingdom. The whole area surrounding the castle is rife with history, from Romans to the poet Thomas Hardye.
